Baby's First Christmas

Today was Morgan's first Christmas! What an exciting day it was. Santa came and brought me lots of presents!

Morgan was so excited.

We got a really good picture with Morgan with Grammy and Papa.

We then went over to Aunt Libby's house for roast beast and fun times with the family. Cousin Carter helped Mommy hand out presents.

And Morgan gave cousin Courtney this pretty scarf.

After dinner, Daddy tried some wine. Mommy said he looks like a mobster in this picture.

And Morgan and Daddy took a nap.

The most fun part of the day was when Carter got to hold Morgan for the first time, sitting in Courtney's new Hello Kitty tent.

I hope everyone had as fun of a Christmas as we did! We hope we have many more wonderful Christmases with our family.

Grammy and Papa are here!

Grammy and Papa Harmon arrived today from Michigan! Papa is staying until January 5th, but we get to keep Grammy here until the end of February! We are all so excited to have them with us.

Morgan and I drove down to San Antonio to pick Grammy and Papa up. Here they are meeting Miss Morgan for the first time!

First Babysitters!

Today was Morgan's first day with a babysitter, and actually, she had 2! While Mommy went to work, my sweet friend Resa watched the baby for us. She'll be watching Morgan Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays until Grammy and Papa get here on the 20th. Brad will be with her on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and of course, I'm home on the weekends.

Resa sent me this photo during the day. She sure knows me well to know I needed that sweet photo to get me through the day!

Tonight was my work holiday party. Aunt Libby came over to stay with Morgan so Brad and I could get all dressed up and go have a baby-free evening. It was so sweet of her and we had a great time. Before we left, we dressed Morgan up in her Christmas dress so we could get a nice, fancy family photo.

Mommy's First Day Back to Work

Today I went back to work. Apparently, we didn't think to take a photo before I left darn it! Instead of a photo of Morgan and me, I'll show you a photo of the great thing we did at work. Every year we adopt angels from the Salvation Army Angel Tree. This year, the LBJ Library staff adopted 40 angels! Here is my coworker's car loaded up with some of the presents, and some photos of the Salvation Army warehouse that I took when we dropped them off!

Christmas Photos

Today, we went to Aunt Libby's for a photo shoot for our Christmas cards. I go back to work tomorrow so we had to get it in while we had the chance. Here are several photos from the session.

Cousin Carter is really loving his new cousin and we got these beautiful photos of them to prove it. He hasn't wanted to hold her yet, but I think this photo is pretty darn adorable.

Mommy also taught Carter how to "Hook 'Em Horns" today! I have a feeling she'll regret this choice soon. :)

Grandparents Visit!

From December 3rd through 7th, Grandma and Grandpa Eggert came to visit. Grandma Denise got Morgan to give us a real smile for the very first time when they met at the airport. That was quite a treat! It was really nice to have Merv and Denise here for the long weekend. Unfortunately, Texas weather doesn't seem to cooperate with their visits. It was really cold all weekend, and we even got snow.

Really, we did! Can't you see it in this photo of Morgan and me?

We didn't do a lot of things out of the apartment with the weather so poor, but we had a great time staying home, adoring our baby girl, and playing Apples to Apples and Euchre. On Sunday night, we took this family photo. It's not the greatest photo ever, but hey, at least we're all together!

Morgan and I were really sad to have to take them to the airport on Monday to say goodbye!

Morgan's First Hockey Game!

We took Morgan to her first hockey game tonight! Here we are watching the Texas Stars play the Milwaukee Admirals. The Stars are the farm team for the Dallas Stars so it's fun to watch the future NHL players and guess who will make it! The team is new this year. I'm hoping they last. We sure like seeing them play!

We went to see them play the Grand Rapids Griffins on October 15th. Sure I was one week from my due date, but I was hoping that the excitement of the game would make me go into labor...Instead, no one scored until the last couple minutes of the game! Talk about boring!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Here is Morgan on her first Thanksgiving!

We spent the afternoon and evening at the Hickson house with Uncle Joel, Aunt Libby, Carter, Courtney, Uncle Jon, Uncle Scott, Uncle Joe, and Joel's parents, Dale and Doris. It was a lovely dinner and we had a very nice time! Uncles Jon and Scott brought a deep fryer and deep fried two smaller turkeys. The first one was a bit overdone because we ran out of propane halfway through cooking it. The second turkey worked better, though Uncle Jon still wants to perfect it a bit more!

The funniest part of the day happened when we were getting ready to eat dinner. We all were getting seated and I asked Brad if it was alright with him if I put the baby in the corner behind him. With a completely serious face, Uncle Jon looked at me and said, "NO, it's not alright." I was completely confused and asked why. Uncle Jon replied, "Because nobody puts baby in the corner!"

It was a wonderful holiday with our Austin family!

First Couple Weeks

Our first couple weeks at home have been pretty uneventful.

Aunt Libby brought Carter and Courtney over to have dinner with us one night while Uncle Joel was on a business trip. Uncle Brad tried to do his best to entertain them.

Here are some random photos we've taken of Morgan through this time. Brad thought it'd be funny to take photos of her with the remotes.

This is what Grandma Denise calls her drunken sailor photo!

Here is Morgan chillin' in her swing.

Going Home!

Today we finally got to come home from the hospital! Dr. Petropoulos, the pediatrician, came this morning and gave Morgan the all clear to be released, and my doctor gave me the okay as well.

Here we are waiting to be released from the hospital.

Doesn't Daddy look proud?

Visitors and Halloween in the Hospital!

Aunt Libby came to visit again on Friday and brought us a special treat...Cupcakes! (Uncle) Joe also came back to visit. Since I was actually awake and able to talk, it was nice to have visitors. Libby actually got to hold the baby and we had a really nice visit, lots of photos taken.

I was moved back to my recovery room some time in the morning. I was still not able to eat, which made the cupcakes a bit cruel, but it was nice to be in my room where I'd be spending the next couple days. We were all pretty sure I'd be going home Sunday. Morgan was a bit jaundiced so she had to stay as well.

In the afternoon, I finally got to have something to eat. I know it's weird that I feel the need to share that info, but it was really an important thing to me! The cupcakes Libby brought were delicious!

Morgan also spent her first holiday in the hospital today. Here she is in her cute little Halloween outfit we bought for her. It's newborn size and still quite large on her! I really didn't fathom the thought of her being so small! Her hat was made by my dear friend Jane Downer. It was the first present I got from anyone after I found out I was pregnant. Isn't it the cutest?

Being in a hospital on Halloween doesn't really make you understand that Halloween is even happening in the world outside. Brad and I got take out for dinner and we watched an NCIS marathon on TV. What a fun Halloween. Now as long as we don't get too fat eating the Halloween candy we didn't get to pass out, we'll be all set!

Complications

Later in the evening after Morgan's birth, I had some complications. Around 6:30pm, they moved me to my recovery room. When they rolled us out we found out Lib, Joel and the kids, as well as Joe, were all there to visit. It was really nice to see their faces when we were brought through the doors. As soon as we got to my new room, they wanted to do a preliminary exam so Brad went to talk to our visitors. The recovery nurse thought there was something strange near my episiotomy site that the Labor and Delivery nurse hadn't mentioned. She called in the other nurse, and they both decided it looked like I had a haematoma under my skin about the size of a tangerine and really hard to the touch.

Luckily, my doctor lives about 5 blocks from the hospital, so they called her in. At this point, I knew it'd be a while, so Brad, Lib, and Joe went down to the cafeteria to visit, and Joel took the kids home. I started to look at the dinner menu thinking that I'd actually get to finally have a meal! The doctor decided to just pack the area with gauze and hope that the haematoma resolved itself. While she was packing the gauze, the haematoma burst. She called and rushed me to the Operating Room. Talk about scary!

While they were rolling me out, Brad and guests returned. Luckily, Libby and Joe were able to stay with him. They brought me into the O.R. where anesthesiologists grabbed each of my arms, told me I'd be ok but they were putting me to sleep and next thing I knew, it was about 9:00. Brad was there and had taken it all amazingly well even with his fear of doctors and blood. They sewed me up and though the haematoma re-formed, everything appears to be ok. They had the baby stay in the nursery that night so I could get rest, Brad stayed in my recovery room, and I stayed in labor and delivery. It was sad that we were all separated on our first night as a family!

It's A Girl!

Morgan Elizabeth Eggert was born at 3:50pm on Thursday, October 29, 2009. She weighs 5lbs. 15oz., and is 20.75 inches in length! She is perfect!

We arrived at the hospital on Wednesday night at 5:00pm so I could be given Cervidil to try to get things moving. Contractions started around 1:30am, but very mild, and very far apart. In the morning, around 8:00am(I think), they gave me Pitocin. Then the contractions really got strong, though still fairly far apart. I was miserable! We then decided to go ahead with an epidural. Of course, with my luck, the first epidural didn't work correctly. I was numb everywhere, except where it really mattered! They removed the epidural and tried again. That time it worked well. I didn't feel another contraction the rest of the day!

Once the epidural was working and the contractions got closer together, things progressed fairly quickly. We got a little worried because the baby's heart rate got a bit erratic, so they decided it was time to push. The doctor warned me going in that if things did not go smoothly that we might need to do a c-section, but we were going to try to deliver her naturally first. I pushed for about 40 minutes, then, when the doctor was getting ready to give up and perform a c-section, she finally decided it was time to come out, with the help of the vacuum.

Uncle Jon and my dear friend Linda were in the waiting room ready to visit. It was really wonderful to have people there waiting for Morgan's arrival. We got to visit for a bit, and I got to eat a little, though I had no appetite. I was really looking forward to dinner that night...

Playing Catch Up

So, I'm just now (January) writing these posts that supposedly occurred in October. Forgive me if I go back and forth with the tenses.

Due Date

I've never blogged before so I'm just testing this out.

So, here we are on Morgan's due date and so far...no baby! I'm really scared to be induced, even if it is an irrational fear, so let's hope she comes on her own in the next couple days.

I guess we'll see what happens!!
